Former Prime Minister of Malaysia charged

Najib Razak , the former Prime Minister of Malaysia has been charged with criminal breach of trust and abuse of power. The charges relate to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister being given authority to manage RM 4 billion of funds at AmIslamic Bank and involve an alleged breach of trust involving RM 42 million.

The former Prime Minister is also charged with abuse of office to gain personal gratification of RM 42 million after agreeing to a government guarantee on RM 4 billion from a pension fund to SRC. SRC was established by Mr Najib in 2011 and was linked to the 1MDB investigation when it was alleged that RM 42 million was transferred to Mr Najib’s personal accounts. The trial is expected to commence in early 2019.
